NARRABEEN BEACH
THE THREE FRAMES

Subjective Frame
The emotion that the artwork communicates with me is thinking about our future, world, nature. Also how the world looks big around but inside its small but full of mysteries about life and nature. The artworks make me feel that I have hidden my feelings inside that whole and it grew larger and larger. It also made me feel like what happens to the eviorment in the future. The way the artist has shared their feelings and experiences with you is very interesting because the artist thought is similar also different. Its similar because we both thought thought about the world but it was different. He thought about space and aliens, I thought of feelings and emotions and enviorment in the future. We both had felt there was millions of mystery inside that hole. The ways of myself, my life and ideas that connect with the artist’s ideas and experiences is unique and different because he was expressing the future and the deep thoughts about the space, I thought about the growth of emotions and experiences in life, world and enviroment.
Cultural Frame
The Roof artwork was created in 2004 to 2005. It was made in Buckingham Virginia slate quarried near Washington D.C. The reason why it was made to show the world about how people reflect the hole and people have different thoughts about it. He wanted to express his thoughts about the hole he created and he was curious what people thoughts about the hole. He also wanted to show the future universe felt and how our emotions felt when we hide it or finding our soul. The material is similar to what ancient used to created sculptures. He wanted to created similar idea of how pots were created and used. He made his own style and pattern on his artwork. The structure itself follows a trajectory that includes Neolithic burial chambers and dwelling cairns, ancient Roman and Byzantine structures, Enlightenment architecture and modern public buildings. It’s also was recreated similar material that ancient used in those days. The dark holes in the tops reflect what Goldsworthy describes as a visual entrance into the earth into the stone. An entrance that between life both ebbs and flows a sense of being drawn into the black as you’re drawn into the depth the distance. It also describes as “a way of looking into our hearts; they are metaphors for the way meditation that leads towards the inner, unconscious life, the truth of things”
Structual Frame
The sculpture comprises nine, stacked-slate, hollow domes, each measuring approximately five and a half feet high and twenty-seven feet in diameter. As with his other permanent works, Roof is the fullest articulation of a structure that Goldsworthy has made in less durable materials, such as leaves, ice, and branches. The lines are not even and it over laps each other. The tone is very shiny also rough. The shape is long and short skinny rectangles. Colour is an army green colour or grey. he black hole represents the future, the thoughts and emotions. The outside layer is the earth and how its going to change sizes, colour and style. This artwork communicates by the hole he created. That hole what’s makes the whole piece of an artwork fascinating and interesting. Its so unique and the way you look at the hole gives you thoughts and emotions. The artwork was created to show people how they feel, their thoughts and ideas about the world also the future. The emotions that the artwork gives you deep thoughts about the feelings you had with someone or a group. It’s a good feeling with bad feelings mixed. It also can you make you deeply lost in you mind. The world makes you feel that you have no idea how the world is going to end up. What our future looks like makes us go into deep thoughts and we get confuse.
